Starting Childcare: What to Expect in the First Week
It’s completely normal to feel a mix of excitement, nerves, and a lot of questions. At Early Foundation Childcare, we’re here to make this transition as gentle, calm, and reassuring as possible for your whole family.
The First Few Days
Starting childcare is a big step — not just for your child, but for you as well.
In the first few days, your child is:
Getting familiar with a new environment
Building trust with educators
Learning new routines
Our team focuses on creating a sense of safety first — everything else follows naturally.
How We Support Your Child
We take a calm, responsive approach to settling in.
Our educators
- Spend one-on-one time with your child
- Follow their cues and comfort levels
- Introduce activities gently, without pressure
- Offer plenty of reassurance and encouragement
Starting childcare is a journey — and we walk it with you.
You’re Not Alone in This
With patience, consistency, and care, most children begin to feel comfortable and confident within a short time.
And when they do, it’s a beautiful thing to watch.
You might notice
- Short goodbyes becoming easier each day
- Your child talking more about their day
- Small moments of independence building
Even if there are a few tears at drop-off, many children settle quickly once they’re engaged and supported.
What You Might Experience
It’s common for the first week to come with a few emotions — for both children and parents.
