At Early Foundation Childcare Craigieburn, we believe that healthy habits are best introduced early — especially when children can learn through engaging, hands-on experiences.

Recently, our children took part in a Dental Health Incursion, where they explored the importance of caring for their teeth and learned more about what happens during a dental check-up.

Throughout the session, children were introduced to simple and age-appropriate oral health concepts, including healthy teeth, tooth decay, brushing techniques and the role of regular dental care. The experience also gave children the opportunity to become familiar with dental equipment and routines in a calm, supportive environment.

For many young children, visiting the dentist can feel unfamiliar or overwhelming. By introducing these experiences within the comfort of their childcare environment, children can build confidence, ask questions and develop a more positive understanding of dental care.

The incursion supported learning around:

• healthy brushing habits
• understanding foods that support healthy teeth
• recognising the importance of oral hygiene
• becoming familiar with dental check-ups
• building confidence around health professionals
• developing independence in everyday self-care routines

Experiences like this form an important part of our play-based early learning program, helping children connect everyday health and wellbeing concepts with meaningful real-world experiences.
