Preparing Children for the Journey Ahead

4 - 5 Year Old School Readiness Program - Preparing Children for a Confident Start to School

The year before school is an exciting time of growing confidence, independence and discovery. At Early Foundation Childcare, our 4–5 Year Old School Readiness Program supports children as they build the skills, relationships and self-belief that help prepare them for a positive transition to school.

We recognise that every child develops differently. Our educators create meaningful experiences that reflect children’s interests, strengths and individual learning needs while encouraging them to become confident and active participants in their learning.

Our School Readiness Program supports children’s social, emotional, physical and cognitive development while helping them build the skills and confidence they need for their next stage of learning.

Supporting School Readiness

As children approach school age, developing independence and confidence becomes increasingly important. Our program provides opportunities for children to practise skills that can support a positive transition to school.

Children may develop confidence in:

  • Following familiar routines
  • Listening and responding to instructions
  • Participating in group experiences
  • Making choices and expressing their ideas
  • Building friendships and positive relationships
  • Managing everyday self-help tasks
  • Working independently and with others
  • Expressing and managing emotions

School readiness is about much more than letters and numbers. It includes confidence, communication, independence, emotional regulation, relationships and the ability to participate in everyday routines and group experiences. Our aim is to help children feel confident, capable and comfortable as they take their next step into school.
